Keep an eye on shop windows around town, as lots of local businesses recruit that way. You will need a CV handy for this - bring a copy to our drop-in at Hugh Owen library and we’ll review it for you (Term time, Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm). Alternatively, send a copy to careers@aber.ac.uk

YES is coordinated by the Careers and Employability Service and enables undergraduate students on three-year degree courses to undertake an industrial placement between Year 2 and Year 3.

To find out more, have a look at the YES webpage and the YES fact sheet. We also recommend you book a guidance appointment with a Careers Adviser to ensure you understand the requirements and implications of taking part in the scheme.

If you’re in the 2^nd year of a 3-year undergraduate degree, you can register interest in YES via our online form to access help and support with finding a placement and arranging participation in YES (this does not commit you to definitely doing YES).

Look into our Professional Pathway Internship Programme, a placement scheme for final year students with limited work experience, and check if you are eligible for the current scheme. 

You might also be interested in Career Readiness Support, which is aimed specifically at students with little or no work experience, who also identify with characteristics that might mean they face barriers to finding employment.

Consider volunteering – you’ll find opportunities advertised on ABERcareers and we also recommend you look at the opportunities coordinated by the Students’ Union Volunteering team.

Yes, we arrange a large Careers Fair on Penglais campus in October each year. We also arrange employer events during the year, including CareerFest each February. Details will be listed in the Events section of ABERcareers and also circulated via our emails and other promotional activities.

Your academic department may also arrange for employers to come into lectures.

As well as this, we support external employers and organisations from a wide range of sectors by also promoting their events, vacancies and opportunities on ABERcareers.

Book a guidance appointment with a Careers Adviser to discuss the options available to you. For example, the Professional Pathways Internship Programme and Career Readiness Support are both designed to support students who are seeking to develop confidence and work-related skills (eligibility criteria apply). The AberSkills hub is also a very useful place to find several ways of boosting your skills in one place. Our Careers Advisers also run workshops throughout the year designed to get you ready for graduate employment – details can be found in the Events section of ABERcareers.
