University of Wales has awarded the Vernam Hull Prize for 2007 to Dr Ian Hughes, Senior Lecturer in the Department, for his volume Manawydan Uab Llyr: Trydedd Gainc y Mabinogi

AHRC Grant Success

Many congratulations to Professor Patrick Sims-Williams, who has secured a substantial grant of £390,889 from the AHRC to fund a five-year project on 'Gaulish Morphology with particular reference to areas South and East of the Danube'.

Thomas Ellis Memorial Fund, 2007

Many congratulations to Dr Robin Chapman, who has been awarded £750 from the University of Wales' Thomas  Ellis Memorial Fund, to aid the writing of the c.1740-2005 volume for 'The Oxford Literary History of Wales' series.

Wales Herald Visits Department

The Department of Welsh was honoured by the visit of Dr  Michael Siddons, whose coming to Aberystwyth co-incided with the publication of the fourth and latest volume in his series, The Development of Welsh Heraldry.
