Something a bit different!
Here at IGES we encourage our undergraduates to do something a bit different during their three years, to find out more read on;
YES - Year in Employment Scheme
The Year in Employment Scheme is an excellent opportunity for students to take a year out between their second and third year to gain valuable paid work experience in an organisation in the UK or overseas. Many placements are suitable for Geography, Environmental Earth Science and Environmental Science, and students have been placed in programmes across the globe, as well as within the UK.
Bridget Pitchers spent her year in employment at SCICON - read her story in issue 5 of our DGES Newsletter.
Svalbard
UNIS is the University Centre in Svalbard, and students may wish to take up an option of studying there. Spending a semester in Svalbard allows students the unique experience of studying in one of the worlds most extreme climates. From Polar Bears to the Northern lights, Svalbard offers students the experience of a lifetime.
"I feel so privileged to have gone to such a unique location and I would not hesitate in recommending IGES and the Svalbard experience to any other student."

North American Exchange Programme
This gives students the chance to experience University life in the United States. Swapping their degree scheme for a similar subject in their second year allows students to experience the world from a different perspective in a North American University. Students can choose from degrees offered by Washington State, Utica, Montana, Boise State Idaho and Pittsburgh.
Travel Awards
As a student within IGES you will be eligible to apply for the Gareth Thomas and Elwyn Davies Travel awards. These have been set up by former lecturers to give students in the department the opportunity to travel the world. Each year 13 students are awarded up to £400 to help them explore the world around them. Destinations in the last few years have included; Uganda, Madagascar, Peru, Mount Etna and the United States.
To see where travel awards have taken our students in the past, take a look at IGES newsletters.
