Athena Swan Self-assessment Team - Expression of Interest

As part of the University's preparation for the next Athena Swan submission, we are establishing a Self-Assessment Team (SAT) to help guide, inform and support the development of our work.

AdvanceHE’s Athena Swan Charter remains one of the most recognised and established equality frameworks in Higher Education to advance gender equality.

The SAT will play an important role in reviewing evidence, analysing data, identifying priorities and helping us understand the experiences of our university community. We are therefore seeking expressions of interest from staff who would like to contribute to this work.

We are keen to build a diverse and representative group and welcome interest from colleagues across all staff groups, grades, roles, academic departments and professional services. We value a broad range of perspectives, experiences and expertise, including professional and personal lived experience relating to equality, diversity and inclusion, career development, caring responsibilities, disability, race, gender, sexuality, age, faith and other aspects of identity.

In selecting members, we will seek to achieve a balanced and representative group that reflects the range of perspectives, experiences, expertise and identities outlined above.

No previous experience of Athena Swan is required. We are looking for colleagues who are interested in helping shape a fair, inclusive and supportive working and learning environment for all.

The University is required to submit its Athena Swan application by September 2028. The aim is to establish the SAT and to meet monthly during 2027 and likely more frequently during project work and as the deadline approaches.

If you would like to express interest in being a member of the Self-Assessment Team, please complete the short form below by 6 November 2026.

Thank you for considering this opportunity to contribute to an important piece of work for the University.

Kind regards,

Patrick Finney
