We are delighted to announce that Iolo Davies, research manager at IBERS’ Pwllpeiran Upland Research Centre, has been selected as one of the participants in the 2025–26 Royal Welsh Agricultural Society (RWAS) Rural Leadership Programme.

The programme, now a well-established initiative by the RWAS, is designed to equip future leaders of the Welsh agricultural industry with the skills, confidence and connections to influence and drive positive change. It offers a unique opportunity to engage with key industry stakeholders, develop professional and personal skills, and gain a deeper understanding of the agricultural landscape in Wales and beyond.

Iolo’s selection recognises not only his passion for sustainable upland farming but also his commitment to supporting innovation and resilience in rural communities. His work at Pwllpeiran focuses on sustainable land use, agroecological systems, and nature-based solutions for the challenges faced by upland farmers.

Speaking about his selection, Iolo said:

"I'm honoured to have been chosen for the RWAS Rural Leadership Programme. It's a fantastic opportunity to develop my skills and contribute more effectively to the future of Welsh agriculture. I’m particularly looking forward to engaging with others who share a commitment to building a more sustainable and resilient rural economy."

IBERS will once again have a strong presence at this year’s Royal Welsh Show, showcasing cutting-edge research, collaborations with industry, and a wide range of activities across agriculture, the environment and the bioeconomy. We look forward to connecting with farmers, researchers, students and the wider public throughout the event.

IBERS congratulates Iolo on this achievement and looks forward to seeing the impact of his participation on both his own professional development and the wider agricultural community in Wales.
