BioInnovation Wales

Online Postgraduate Training for Welsh Agri-Food and Biotech Industries

The BioInnovation Wales Project has come to an end. If you are interested in our distance learning courses they are still available on the IBERS Distance Learning web pages: https://ibersdl.org.uk/

BioInnovation Wales is a partnership between the Institute for Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences (IBERS) at Aberystwyth University and the College of Engineering at Swansea University. The scheme has been supported by the European Social Fund (Priority 2 ‘Skills for Growth’) through the Welsh Government.

Our aim is to provide a high-level conduit between current research and decision makers within bio-based businesses, which encompasses all aspects of the food and biotechnology pipelines.

BioInnovation Wales provides flexible and responsive postgraduate training to:

  • update technical knowledge
  • provide a route to postgraduate qualifications
  • embed a research culture in the workplace

Enhancing the workforce's ability to embrace the circular economy and innovate!

Who is it for?

The programme is available at a substantial discount to students living or working in ALL areas of Wales, however, anyone can participate in the modules.

Our students are existing and ‘would-be’ technicians, consultants, researchers and managers working throughout the food and biotechnology pipelines: from raw material production, to processing and refining, to product development, to waste management and valorisation - or those wishing to move into these sectors. Environmental and economic sustainability cuts across all aspects of the programme.

What’s so different about BioInnovation Wales?

BioInnovation’s team of academics work in response to identified industry need. The team synthesise published research findings from the global research community with the very latest cutting-edge research from their respective institutes. Collectively, these resources are used to create a suite of University-validated distance learning and blended modules; these can be built as required to form a bespoke range of postgraduate qualifications tailored to specific industry needs. Our modules are designed to be flexible so that people can fit studying at postgraduate level around their busy lives.
