OL Davies / George Lee Pennington Prizes

20 July 2026

Warm congratulations to Mathematics students who graduated last week.

Following the ceremony it was a pleasure to award prizes to our graduating students for exceptional performance in Mathematics.

Pennington Prizes for Pure Mathematics, in memory of Prof. Barry Pennington, Head of Pure Mathematics 1961-1968, were awarded for outstanding performance in Pure Mathematics to Harry Richards, Meilyr Lynch and Tom Wolstencroft.

The O.L. Davies Prize for Statistics, in memory of Prof. Owen Davies, Head of Statistics 1968-1975, was awarded to Hannah Peacock for her performance in Statistics.

The George Lee Prize, in memory of a former Mathematics student, was awarded to Harry Richards for having the highest MMath cascade average.

The Clive Pollard Prize for Mathematics, named for a former student who graduated in Pure Mathematics in 1972, was jointly awarded to Leah Morton and Will Phillips for their improved performance in the final year.

Harry Richards and Meilyr Lynch also receive prizes from the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) for the best overall performance.

Prizes have also been awarded to non-finalists; we will congratulate these students in person when they return in September.
