Potential funding opportunities:

James Pantyfedwen Foundation Grants

The James Pantyfedwen Foundation distributes grants to postgraduate students from Wales studying for a Masters or PhD award. Grants will be offered towards the payment of tuition fees only, up to a maximum of £5,000 in each case.

The closing date for any applications for the 2022-23 academic year is the end of May 2022. Details and application forms can be downloaded from the James Pantyfedwen website on www.jamespantyfedwen.cymru.

Snowdon Masters Scholarships

Snowdon Masters Scholarships have been designed to identify and accelerate talented disabled individuals through higher education.

These scholarships offer up to a maximum of £30,000 of funding per successful student to support them to join a UK based Masters programme.  The funding can include up to £15,000 towards Masters tuition fees, and a £15,000 p.a. allowance while studying.

Applications are open to both Home and International students.

Postgraduate Loan (Wales)

 

Students starting a postgraduate Master’s course in 2021 may be able to apply for a Postgraduate Loan from Student Finance Wales (administered by the Student Loans Company). If you are eligible, the loan will be:

  • contribution towards the costs of study, i.e. it will be at the student’s discretion to use the loan towards fees, maintenance costs or other costs;
  • non-means tested;
  • paid directly to the student.

Financing your PGCE (Teacher Training) course

The tuition fees and loans for PGCE (Teacher Training) courses are the same as for undergraduate courses. You should therefore contact your relevant Student Finance Company for further information:

The Welsh Government also offers Financial Support and Incentives for Initial Teacher Training, depending on degree result and subject area.

Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)

The ESRC provide studentships for students to undertake a 1 year Research Training Masters and a 3 year PhD research programme. Studentships can therefore cover a period of 4 years, subject to satisfactory academic progress. These studentships are offered on a competitive basis. Successful applicants will receive a studentship which covers their tuition fees and provides a subsistence allowance of approximately £14,296.

Professional and Career Development Loans

Professional and Career Development Loan is a commercial bank loan that you can use to help pay for work-related learning. Aberystwyth University is a Professional and Career Development Loans registered Learning Provider (registration number 1021). 

 

Disabled Students Allowance

The Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) can be used to provide the necessary additional support for students with disabilities, including specific learning difficulties (such as Dyslexia). Aberystwyth University is a registered DSA access centre and staff can advise on any element of the process.
