REF: 66-2505-8778931 - FM34240: 40 - 60 Credits

Your comment: FM34240: I believe this module should be 60 credits total, across the two semesters. It is far too much work in second semester, causing many people I know to skip lecture just to make their films. A simple solution for this would be to extend it from 40 to 60 credits, releasing the pressure off of students and actually allowing them to create good films whilst enjoying the filmmaking process.

Our response:

Fiction Film is indeed a very demanding module, along with all our final year 40 credit modules. The teaching team has already been in discussions about managing student workloads. There are plans to restrict shooting days and to establish more oversight of schedules to help with some of these issues. It is possible to create these films within the 40 credits if schedules are well handled by the students, although in some cases unforeseen issues, particularly with actors' availability, impact this. The module has run as a 40-credit module for many years now and there have been very few complaints during this time. As Head of Department, I take on board the suggestion to make the module 60 credits and will review this in line with future scheme developments. Many thanks for the feedback.
