150 years of academic heritage
2022 will mark 150 years since the formation of Aberystwyth University – Wales’ first university - in 1872.
The University and its current students and staff will join with our global community of alumni, and our friends and partners in Wales and throughout the world to celebrate our unique contribution and academic heritage throughout 2022-2023.
150 years since its foundation, today’s Aberystwyth University is a truly global institution. We carry out world leading research that pushes boundaries in ways that weren’t even dreamt of back in 1872, and students come here from near and far to further their studies and their careers.
As a University we’ve never stood still, constantly developing, as we respond to new and changing challenges faced by society. Yet I am proud that we have remained true to the guiding principle of inclusivity that was such a clear driver of those who founded Wales’ first university here a century and a half ago.
During this milestone anniversary, we’re bringing new life to our historic Old College home. This iconic building in our beautiful coastal town is an enduring symbol of both our past and our future. We welcome you and thank you for being part of these celebrations with us.
