Technical Information about this website’s accessibility

Aberystwyth University is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Forms

Form fields do not have labels. This can mean that it's not clear to people filling out the form what data they should enter into the field. This doesn’t meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 Info and Relationships.

Some form fields do not have appropriate autocomplete attributes defined. This can mean that it's more difficult for people using assistive technology to understand what data should be entered. This doesn't meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.5 Identify Input Purpose

Headings

Some pages have text that looks like a heading but is not marked up as a heading. This is confusing when the pages are accessed using assistive technology. This doesn’t meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 Info and Relationships.

Images

Some images don’t have a text alternative. This means that the information in the images isn’t available to people using assistive technology. This doesn’t meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 Non-Text Content.

The site name is presented as text in an image, without alternative text. This means that the site name is not available to people using assistive technology. This doesn't meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 Non-Text Content or 1.4.5 Images of Text.

Keyboard

Some areas of pages (including main navigation) cannot be accessed via keyboard. This means that the information is not available to people navigating via keyboard. This doesn’t meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.1.1 Keyboard.

Landmarks

There are no landmarks identified within the pages. This means that people using assistive technology may have difficulty orienting themselves and navigating the pages. This doesn’t meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 Info and Relationships.

There is no 'skip navigation' link present. This means that people using assistive technology are unable to skip past the navigation to reach the main content of the page. This doesn't meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.1 Bypass Block.

Language

Information on the language of the page is not defined. This can mean that assistive technology is unable to present the text correctly. This doesn't meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 3.1.1 Language of Page.

Links

Some pages have links using text that doesn’t tell the user where the link will take them. This is confusing when the pages are accessed using assistive technology. This doesn’t meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context).

There are list elements that are not contained within a list. This means that people using assistive technology may have difficulty navigating the lists. This doesn’t meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 Info and Relationships.

There are lists which contain items other than standard list elements. This means that people using assistive technology may have difficulty navigating the lists. This doesn’t meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 Info and Relationships.

Tables

Tables are being used for layout throughout the site. This is confusing when the pages are accessed using assistive technology. This doesn’t meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 Info and Relationships.

Text

When browser zoom is increased to 400%, not all text reflows. This means that people who need to enlarge text will have to scroll left to right to read it. This doesn't meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.10 Reflow

Disproportionate burden

There are many accessibility issues present in the current student record system which would require a lot of work to address. We are currently developing a new system, so the benefits of making improvements on the existing system would be small and temporary. We believe that making these improvements now would be a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations. We will ensure that the new system is accessible.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We are developing a new student record, which will include accessibility improvements over the current system.
