Conferences, Field Trips & Exhibitions
The School of Art provides research students with opportunities to participate in conferences, field trips, and exhibitions. In 2006, our postgraduates won the Wales Portrait Award, the Boundary Gallery Figurative Art Prize, the Nationwide Mercury Awards, and distinguished themselves at the Originals 06: National Print Exhibition in London. Postgraduate students have been successful in several research fields; among them Terence Cartlidge, who published his first book, Charles and Nell Vyse (Richard Dennis, 2006); Edwina Ellis, a practice-based PhD student, who won the competition to design four of the British pound coins now in circulation; she also designed the current masthead of The Times; Helga Gamboa and Ndubuisi Ezeluomba were awarded the Association of Art Historians’ John Fleming Travel Award in 2005 and 2007 respectively.
