Ysgogi is a two-day programme for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic students at Aberystwyth University, designed to build confidence, strengthen identity and develop career-ready skills. 

Why take part?

  • Discover Yourself: explore your personal and cultural identity, connect your passions to career opportunities, and articulate your unique strengths
  • Develop Career Skills: practise teamwork, leadership, problem-solving and communication through real-world, hands-on challenges
  • Showcase Your Growth: create a reflective profile with evidence of your skills and achievements to boost CVs and support interviews

Gideon Buabeng – knife crime survivor, youth mentor, and inspirational leader for BAME communities.

 

Harry Spear – founder of Periscope Learning, expert in designing transformative experiences that prepare students for success.

Programme highlights

  • Day One – “I AM”: Express yourself, explore career paths, and link identity to professional purpose.
  • Day Two – “WE ARE”: Apply self-awareness in team challenges, simulate real-world work scenarios, and develop transferable employability skills.

A light lunch will be provided both days!

Ysgogi equips you with the confidence, skills and experience to thrive – at university and beyond. 

Interested?

To take part in Ysgogi, you must identify as one of the following:

  • Asian or Asian British
  • Black or Black British
  • Mixed Ethnicity
  • Any other Minority Ethnic group

Spaces are limited, so early registration is recommended. Places will be allocated based on the information you provide when registering your interest. Priority will be given to final-year students. Please note that places for international students and post-graduate students are capped proportionally to the current international and post-graduate student populations at Aberystwyth University. You can take part in Ysgogi on its own or alongside Career Readiness Support.
