About the Name
The reasons for the name Adam are:
- It is almost an acronym: A Discovery Machine - Adam.
- In honour of the Scottish Economist Adam Smith, who developed the theory of the division of labour, and hence automation. We aim to lower the cost of scientific discovery through automation.
- It is the first complete Robot Scientist, and in Christian tradition Adam was the first human scientist: see e.g. Du Bartas, Babilon, a part of the seconde weeke. Englished by W. L'Isle (1595) "Adam a man parfitly wise before he sinned ... from him had we first our Arts and Sciences derived". There is clear Biblical authority for his taxonomy work: "And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field;" Genesis 2.20.
