The Kingdom of Fungi is a fascinating, ancient and diverse one. On this introductory course, we delve into this world, looking at the vital ecological role fungi play in our forests and showing how species vary according to habitat - be this woodland or pasture. We will touch on many aspects of mycology as well as focusing on how to identify the larger fungi with a look at some of the key edible and poisonous species in the UK. The course includes an overview of the historical relationship in Britain and Europe, with a look at the use of fungi for food, medicine and craft.

This online course lets you study from home while connecting with a vibrant virtual community of fellow learners. The course is delivered through Blackboard, our online learning environment, any live sessions will be hosted via Teams and learners can ask questions and share discoveries through discussion forums.
