This short 5 credit course draws on resilience tactics from Carol Dweck’s educational research. She states,
‘We found that student mindsets—how they perceive their abilities—played a key role in their motivation and achievement, and we found that if we changed students’ mindsets, we could boost their achievement. More precisely, students who believed their intelligence could be developed (a growth mindset) outperformed those who believed their intelligence was fixed (a fixed mindset). And when students learned through a structured program that they could “grow their brains” and increase their intellectual abilities, they did better’.
By helping yourself, you can better help your students. We will focus on building strategies to embrace change and keep a healthy mental state of mind. This is designed for anyone who is embracing or adapting to new changes in employment and can also be filtered down to school children through families. Everyone gains.

The course will be delivered as 3 sessions of 3 hours.

Session One:
What is happening to you?
How stress affects your physical and mental health
What is your brain doing? What is creating the stress?
Listening to your inner demon
Setting personal targets
Home study:
Start a reflective journal and set three goals for next week’s session.
Session Two
How a growth mind-set can turn negative thoughts around.
Mindfulness and other strategies.
Discussion: Share a time when you felt completely calm.
Finding a mentor and creating a check point for mental health
Learning the common pitfalls, the misunderstandings, and what to do about them
Home study: Add to your diary….Trigger points
Session Three: Intelligence’s aren’t fixed.
Looking at Gardners’ theory of intelligencies and signposting to Meyers Briggs training.
Assessment: Set a series of goals for assessment in a log.
