'Creative Crochet' is a practical based course designed to be an ideal follow on from our 'Hooked on Wool' course for learners wishing to further develop their crochet skills. Creative Crochet will develop learners' skill in different stitches, the use of colour, flat work and 3D by using shaping. Each session will be held in person. You will be asked to complete two projects for assessment: one flat piece of freestyle crochet that utilises the different stitches with colour changes (30%), and an item of clothing of your choice using freestyle crochet (60%) along with a researched and written project of that item of clothing through history (10%). Extra time is offered for out of session work, ready to submit your finished project on the 5th and final session, where we will be assessing your work and celebrating your successes.
Unleash your creativity in this 5-session freeform crochet course where structure meets spontaneity. Designed for crocheters with a solid grasp of basic techniques, this course guides you through the process of designing and constructing a one-of-a-kind garment—without patterns or rules. Each session explores different freeform methods, including scrumbling, texture play, color blending, and shaping, empowering you to express your unique style through yarn. By the end of the course, you’ll have created a wearable piece that’s entirely your own artistic vision.
You’ll need yarn ideally recycled from your home stash or charity shops, hooks to suit your yarn weight, tapestry scissors, some stitch markers and an open mind. Avoid buying any yarn for your garment until later in the course. Advice will be given.
