Vice-Chancellor’s Award

 

The Vice-Chancellor’s Award is a new living cost bursary of £4500 per student, open to students entering their final year of undergraduate study in 2026/27, made possible by the generosity of an alumni donor.

The award supports UK undergraduates who entered university via a Foundation year, BTEC qualification or as a mature student, who are at risk of not achieving their potential in their final year, due to financial pressures.

As well as a financial award, successful applicants will be allocated an experienced mentor from the alumni community to support them in their final year.

Eligibility criteria

Before applying for funding, you must ensure that you fulfil all the eligibility criteria of the Vice-Chancellor’s Award as given in the award description.

Candidates who do not meet the eligibility criteria cannot be considered for funding. Only students who have commenced studying at Aberystwyth University and are acceptable for the relevant academic year, as specified in the award description, can be considered for funding.

You will be required to submit further documentation including a reference from your personal tutor. Incomplete applications will not be accepted and are excluded from the selection process. 

Guidelines for applying for an award

  • Your award application must be complete to be valid. We will not inform you whether your application has been received, whether it is complete, nor contact you for missing documents. Incomplete applications are invalid and will not be processed. The application procedures will advise you of the additional documentation needed.
  • Please make sure you include a valid University email address.
  • All applications received by the application deadline date are treated equally. Applications received after the closing date will not be considered.
  • Please note that awards are calculated are not intended to support family members.
  • Only the successful applicants or reserve candidates will normally be notified.

Award application deadline for the 2026-27 year is noon 25/04/2026. Applications arriving after published deadline will be excluded from the selection process.

Award selection criteria

The award is open to UK home fee paying undergraduate students of any department who will be entering into their final year of study in 2026/27 27 who are at risk of not fulfilling their potential due to financial pressures.  Special consideration given to those from Computer Science, Maths, Physics and Medical Sciences courses.

 To be eligible for this award, students must have entered the university via a BTEC or Foundation year or be a mature student.

Notification of scholarship results

Award applications are judged by the Selection Panel. The selection process generally takes 6 weeks from the deadline. Successful applicants will be notified by email and receive an official award offer by mail to the University correspondence address provided in the scholarship application.

Scholarship regulations

Funding is not available retrospectively; any funding granted will apply from the beginning of the academic session following the scholarship application deadline.

Any funding granted is payable only upon full enrolment of the award-holder. Payments will be made in instalments and dependent on satisfactory progress by the award-holder.

Termination of award

The award may be terminated at any time if an unsatisfactory progress report is received from the academic department, if the award-holder ceases to be a full-time registered student at Aberystwyth University, or if the award-holder is found in contravention of the award regulations
