Additional Fees and Charges

The academic provision of the University includes certain elements of study away from Aberystwyth. These involve activities such as field courses in biological, geographical, environmental science subjects, visits to theatres, galleries and museums in humanities-based subjects. The additional costs of such opportunities are not included in the overall University fee. If you are intending to study one of these subjects you should therefore note the need to budget for these events. Fuller details will be available from the department organising the event. These costs are given as an indication of the likely cost. Costs will vary as will the location and duration of the study programme. Details of the courses that have additional charges are included below:

Nursing

The University provides educational and recreational resources that will assist students during their studies, such as library facilities, books, electronic platforms, on-site computers, study spaces etc. which are free of charge. However, some services will incur additional costs, such as printing, stationery, sports affiliations etc, and these will be at the student’s own expense.

Students will be provided with a set number of the All-Wales student nurse uniform free of charge. Any additional uniforms can be purchased at the student's own cost.

Students are also strongly advised to consider subscription to a Union such as RCN or Unison to ensure indemnity and professional support during training.

Our placement areas cover the Mid Wales locality where the geography can be quite rural, and students will be expected to make their own arrangements regarding transportation to their placements. Travelling to clinical placement areas will be at the student’s expense, unless the distance is more than their usual mileage to and from their University base; students can then claim mileage expenses for the difference only from the NHS Wales Bursary Scheme.

In addition, if the placement area is a considerable distance away from the student’s term-time home address and daily travelling is deemed unreasonable, or if transportation to access the placement areas are a concern, funded accommodation possibilities can be explored whilst undertaking these practice placements. This cost will be covered in line with the NHS Wales Bursary Scheme.

Some aspects of the programme may also incur some element of cost, for example, conference fees, trips, educational visits, community projects and so forth. These will be communicated to students at the earliest opportunity, and we will endeavour to keep additional costs to a minimum.
