Conferences Relevant for Luminescence Dating

International Luminescence and Electron Spin Resonance Dating Conferences

A major conference for the presentation and discussion of luminescence and electron spin resonance dating results is held every three years at various locations around the world. The papers and posters presented at these conferences are normally published in special editions of Quaternary Geochronology and Radiation Measurements. The most recent of these conferences are listed below. The next meeting in this series will be held in Burgos, Spain, 13-17th July 2020.

  • 15th International Conference on Luminescence and Electron Spin Resonance Dating, Cape Town, South Africa, 2017
  • 14th International Conference on Luminescence and Electron Spin Resonance Dating, Montreal, 2014
  • 13th International Conference on Luminescence and Electron Spin Resonance Dating, Poland, 2011
  • 12th International Conference on Luminescence and Electron Spin Resonance Dating, Beijing, China, 2008

UK Luminescence and Electron Spin Resonance Dating Meetings

These meetings are held every year when there is not an international luminescence and electron spin resonance meeting (i.e. two out of every three years). They are more informal than the international meetings and there is no specific publication associated with them. These have been held at:

  • British Museum, London, 1993
  • Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, 1994
  • Sussex, 1995
  • Durham, 1997
  • Cheltenham, 1998
  • Oxford, 2000
  • Glasgow, 2001
  • Aberystwyth, 2003
  • St Andrews, 2004
  • Liverpool, 2006
  • Sheffield, 2007
  • Royal Holloway, 2009
  • Oxford, 2010

  • DTU, Denmark, 2019 (https://www.tilmeld.dk/UKLUM19)

The next annual UK luminescence and ESR dating research meeting will be held in Royal Holloway University of London in 2021. The meeting is intended to provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of the latest research in trapped charge dating and related work. The meeting will consist of both oral and poster presentations, and presentations by research students are especially encouraged.

Asia-Pacific Conference on Luminescence Dating

The conference, aimed primarily at Asia-Pacific countries, is open to participants from all over the world. The conference will cover topics ranging from fundamental studies, through advances in equipment technology and analytical procedures, to applications on geological and archaeological materials.

5th Asia Pacific Conference on Luminesence and Electron Spin Resonance Dating, Beijing, 2018 (5th APLED website).

4th Asia Pacific Conference on Luminescence Dating, Adelaide, Australia, 2015 (4th APLED website including abstracts).

3rd Asia Pacific Conference on Luminescence Dating, Okayama, Japan, 2012.

2nd Asia Pacific Conference, Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedebad, India, 2009.

1st Asia Pacific Conference, Hong Kong University, October, 2006.

New World Luminescence Dating Workshop

This series of meetings has been held for the last decade and is of interest to luminescence dating specialists, Quaternary geologists, archaeologists, dosimetric scientists and some physics researchers. The next meeting is due to be held in August 2019 in Illinois (Registration Form), hosted by Sebastien Huot.

Details of previous meetings are given below.

Solid State Dosimetry Meetings

Recent meetings have been held in Washington (1990), Budapest (1994), Burgos (1998), Athens (2001), Yale, USA (2004), Delft (2007), Sydney (2010), Recife (2013), Munich (2016) and Hiroshima (2019). In the past, papers and posters presented at these conferences have been published in the journal Radiation Protection Dosimetry, but more recently in the journal Radiation Measurements. The next conference (SSD20) will be held in 2022.
