International Postgraduate Excellence Scholarships (IPES)

International Postgraduate Excellence Scholarships (IPES) for 2019-2020

Up to 13 scholarships, each worth £5,000 towards tuition fees will be available for International (non-EU) students commencing full-time Taught Masters courses in September 2019. The scholarships will be awarded for academic excellence (minimum of a UK 1st class honours degree or the equivalent award). In order to be considered for one of these awards, an application for a place on a taught Masters degree at Aberystwyth University must be received by 23rd August 2019.

ESRC Wales DTP General Studentships

Applicants have the possibility of being awarded a fully-funded ESRC DTP studentship commencing in September 2018. Studentships offered within the Politics and International Studies pathway are available on either a 1+3 or +3 basis.

Chevening scholarships

Chevening Scholarships are awarded to international students with excellent academic backgrounds who wish to pursue postgraduate study in the UK, especially for those wishing to pursue a taught Masters degree.  The application deadline for these awards can be very early in some countries so it is best to enquire as early as possible about the application process.  For further details please visit: http://www.chevening.org

Fulbright Commission Awards

The Fulbright Commission offers scholarships for US citizens to pursue a postgraduate degree in Britain.  The Department has an excellent track record of attracting these awards for students coming to complete a Masters degree.  For further details please visit: http://www.fulbright.org.uk

Marshal Papworth Scholarships

Marshal Papworth Scholarships, awarded by the Marshal Papworth Trust of the East of England Agricultural Society, provide vital funds to support Agricultural and Horticultural students from developing Countries.

The Scholarship enable students to study for one year at specially selected Universities and Colleges participating in the Scheme throughout the United Kingdom, giving students access to a wide range of Postgraduate courses. We are delighted that students accepted on the MSc in Food and Water Security at Aberystwyth University are eligible for funding. Already 26 Scholarships have been awarded to students from across Africa, Asia and Indonesia to further their education and develop their skills base for the benefit of their own communities.

Aberystwyth University - GREAT Scholarships 2018 - China

This year, in partnership with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign, Aberystwyth University will be offering two scholarships to students in Malaysia and four scholarships to students in China applying for any of our postgraduate taught courses. 

This scholarship scheme is part of the "GREAT Scholarships 2019 - East Asia" campaign, which has been launched by the British Council together with 28 UK universities to support more students in East Asia to get access to the excellent UK higher education opportunities.

The total value of the scholarship scheme is nearly £1 million. This scholarship scheme will offer an exciting opportunity for East Asian students wishing to get financial support to pursue postgraduate study in the UK. Students can apply for courses in subjects including engineering, law, business, art and design, biosciences, IT and more, at the 28 institutions across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

  1. The scholarships will be awarded for academic excellence (Bachelor degree with minimum 2ndclass upper division)
  2. In order to be considered for one of these awards, an application for a place on a taught Masters degree at Aberystwyth University must be received by 19thApril 2019. In addition, acceptance of an offer of an award, and payment of the £2,000 course deposit, must be received within 2 weeks of being offered.
  3. GREAT Separate scholarship application forms are not required, but applicants need to make sure that they write ‘I am applying for the GREAT scholarship’ on their application form.

Please note that applicants should be passport holders of Malaysia or China.

(Wales/EU only): HEFCW PGT Masters Grant (2018/19 only)

In addition to the Postgraduate Loan, HEFCW will provide an additional £3,416 grant for full-time students commencing on eligible PGT Masters courses in September 2018 and who would be also eligible for the loan. This will be pro-rated for part-time students. This is a one-off grant for the academic year 2018-2019 only as the recommendations of the Diamond Review will not be fully implemented until 2019-2020. The grant will be in the form of a fee waiver. Applicants must apply for the grant, where the deadline is 4pm on 27th July 2018.

Selection Criteria: 10. Allocation will be prioritised according to the criteria noted in section 3 of the Application Form for HEFCW PGT Masters Grant. These are as follows, and will be applied in this order: a. Basic eligibility -Welsh or EU domiciled. b. Whether or not an applicant received a means-tested Aber Bursary as a UG student at AU. c. Whether or not an applicant who is a UG at another university received a maintenance loan based on the income levels required for the Aber Bursary. d. Whether or not an applicant is a Care Leaver. e. Whether or not an applicant is in receipt of Disabled Student Allowance. f. Whether or not an applicant intends to study at least 40 credits of their programme through the medium of Welsh. Please contact the PG Office for advice on how these credits are counted. g. Whether or not the applicant intends to study on the list of programmes prioritized through the Attainment Award process - this is a reduced list of our PG offer, designed to create critical mass on a selection of our PG programmes. h. Academic excellence based on performance at UG level to date.
