Overview
Gain the skills to create your own field study book whilst exploring a variety of drawing and painting media and methods including tonal and linear drawing with mixed media and watercolour wash techniques for depicting form, volume, colour, texture and pattern. You will develop your observational abilities and knowledge of the fascinating world of invertebrates, whilst gaining the scientific vocabulary and skills which can be applied to a variety of subject matter.
Programme
Session 1: Presentation & Discussion: Artists Inspiration. Demonstrations followed by Practical Time: Capturing form through line – minimal mark making to capture essential characteristics, (fine line pen, pencil.)
Seminar - Methods for Recording on location, creating a field notebook.
Practical Observing & Sketching Session, on location (weather permitting)
Session 2: From Drawing to Painting – Colour Studies Recording Colour: Demonstrations followed by practical painting time creating swatches.
Seminar: gathering & using reference material – field sketches, photographs, notes & field guides.

- Create a natural history Illustration field book with notes from personal observations.
