Overview
In recent years there has been a Mindfulness revolution in the areas of health and wellbeing and dealing with stress in the workplace. This practical course will explore how practicing mindfulness can be beneficial in managing stress and increasing wellbeing. Mindfulness is one of the most commonly suggested tools for people experiencing stress, anxiety, depression and overwhelm. It is named within the NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) as an effective antidote to anxiety and depression. It has also exploded in popularity as a stress busting tool in the workplace and is relevant to the trauma field During the course we will explore how to apply mindfulness to different challenges including stress, and pain, we will practice Mindfulness Meditation as well as learning how the practice of Mindfulness can be beneficial in managing stress and increasing wellbeing The course will be beneficial and suitable to those new to Mindfulness as well as those who have some experience of it.
Programme
During the course, learners will cover the following:
- The history, theory and science of mindfulness.
- Applying mindfulness to different challenges including i. Stress. ii. Physical pain. iii. Emotional distress.
- How compassion pairs with mindfulness.
- Developing a regular practice.
- Applying micro mindfulness practices on the spot.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module, students should be able to:
- Define what meditation and mindfulness are and what their relevance to modern life is.
- Consider commonly held ideas about stress in the light of their own direct experience.
- Illustrate the physiology of stress.
- Understand how Mindfulness can be applied to everyday situations through formal practice and through micro applications of the teachings in moment to moment scenarios.

Assessments
- Written assignment - Mindfulness reflective journaling questions (50%).
- In class test - 1 Hour (50%)
