Overview

Everyone experiences stress and times when life gets out of balance. This highly engaging course explores the nature and causes of stress. We will reflect on our own experience and explore tools and teachings from a range of perspectives to help manage our relationship to times of pressure, demand and overwhelm. We will draw from mindfulness, compassion, nervous system science and assertiveness and look practically and compassionately at how to apply these in our day to day lives going forwards.

Programme

During the course, learners will cover the following:

  • What is stress and how does it show up in our physiology?
  • The window of tolerance model and how it relates to stress management.
  • The importance of self-compassion.
  • Assertiveness and boundaries.
  • Building a realistic and effective stress management toolkit.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Define stress and identify the associated risks of prolonged periods of it.

  2. Describe the physical and emotional experience of stress.

  3. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the reasons and benefits of adopting stress management tools.

  4. Evaluate a range of stress management interventions.

  5. Identify a realistic approach for the day to day reduction of stress.

  2. Written Assignment - Reflective journaling questions (50%)
