Welsh Domiciled Students
Students from Wales can apply for loans and grants to cover tuition fees and living costs. These are explained in more detail below, along with further information on the grants and maintenance loans available to Welsh Domiciled Students.
Tuition Fees – Loans and Grants
Here at Aberystwyth University, we charge up to £9,000 per year in tuition fees. For Welsh Domiciled Students, they can apply for funding to cover the cost of the tuition fees.
Please note that from 2020/21 onwards, tuition fees may be subject to change.
- A tuition Fee Loan can be taken out to cover the fees and this is paid directly to your university or college of choice.
Living Costs – Loans and Grants
While at university, you may also need help with your living costs. These costs are for things like food, books, and rent. There are two main funding parts that can cover your living costs while at university.
- Maintenance Loan
Welsh Students can apply for a Maintenance Loan to help with living costs. What you receive will depend on your family household income, and where you’ll live during your time at university. You’ll be charged interest on your Maintenance Loan from the first day the money is paid to your university or college until it is repaid in full or written off. This loan has to be repaid after you finish your studies, but only when you earn a salary of more than £25,000 per year.
- Welsh Government Learning Grant
The Welsh Government Learning Grant is also available to help with living costs. The amount of grant you'll get will depend on your household income, but most full-time students will get a grant of a least £1,000. You'll then get a Maintenance Loan to top you up to the amount shown in this table.
|Breakdown of loans and grants based on household income|
|Household income||Living with parents||Living away from home, studying in Wales|
|£18,370 or less||£6,885||£955||£8,100||£1,125|
|£59,200 or more||£1,000||£6,840||£1000||£8,225|
