Support Us

We really value the support of friends and colleagues, whether that is by awareness-raising, being generous with time, donating items to safeguard their future, or by making a financial contribution.

Here are the ways you can lend a helping hand.

Donating items

We welcome the donation of records and objects that relate to life and activities in the University.

If you would like to start a conversation around whether your items would be suitable for permanent preservation in the Archives, please contact us.

You might also want to read our Institutional Archive Collection and Acquisitions Policy and Deposit Archive Collection and Acquisitions Policy. We can help you decide whether we are the right place to accept your items, or whether another repository is more appropriate.

Donating money

Donating to the University Archives fund helps us to look after our collections and to give them the best chance of being preserved and accessible for future generations.

Whether you are able to give once or make regular gifts, we are very grateful for you choosing to do so - thank you!

What we use your money for

We use any donations to carry out conservation work, by repairing damaged or fragile items; to preserve items, by buying appropriate protective packaging; and sometimes to buy relevant items to add to the collection. You can read about some examples below.

We were able to accept records of the Welsh Agricultural College (WAC) from their successor department in the University and, thanks to DIS Archive Administration students, catalogued and packaged the material, preserving the collection and making it available to researchers - Welsh Agricultural College Collection / Casgliad Coleg Amaethyddol Cymru - Archives Hub (jisc.ac.uk)

We’ve been able to fund conservation work: repairing, digitizing and packaging the League of Nations Union Congress photograph - League of Nations 1926 Visit to Aber - Aberystwyth University

We’ve also been able to make purchases. The archives fund has enabled us to enter the world of bidding at auction, where we bought a David Bowie poster advertising an event at the Great Hall in 1972. And, of course, why the archives fund was set up in 2015 – to purchase a postcard of Iris de Freitas - Aberystwyth University honours first female lawyer in the Caribbean

Volunteering

We are hoping to develop a volunteer programme, so if you are interested in giving up any of your spare time then please do get in touch.

Telling your friends about us

Help us by telling anyone you know, with a connection to the University, about us. We’re always on the search for the iconic Objects of Abership and stories from across the generations.
