PhD Opportunities in ALRL

We are seeking a strong candidate interested in pursuing a PhD at Aberystwyth Luminescence Research Laboratory (ALRL), exploring the suitability for luminescence dating of various biogenic carbonates and other natural bio-materials. The aim is to identify a new range of bio-materials suitable for dating events in the sedimentary and archaeological record that can extend through the whole of the Quaternary time period and beyond.

Candidates probably have a background in geoscience or physical sciences. Previous experience of working with luminescence dating of sediments or other materials is not necessary, but candidates should be comfortable and competent working with numerical data.  The successful candidate(s) will be entered into the ‘AberDoc’ PhD competition for funding from Aberystwyth University, and international applicants will also be entered into the ‘President’s Award’ competition.

We are also open to PhD applications for other luminescence dating projects for the same funding round.
