Overview 

Design and build your own flowering plant! An ideal course for those that need low maintenance, allergy free house plants or simply want to enjoy a blooming specimen all year around. This course is designed for those with some crochet experience, and will advance your techniques to shape delicate leaves, sculpt intricate blooms and incorporate structure aiming for beauty and realism. Through supportive instruction and hands-on practice, you'll explore methods for achieving natural textures, elegant plant forms, and artistic compositions - all using yarn sculpture and crochet skills. Whether you want to create a centrepiece for your home, expand your artistic repertoire, or challenge yourself with a unique yarn art project, this course will inspire and equip you to craft a truly remarkable blooming plant and offer you an immersive crafting experience.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module students should be able to:

  1. Identify and name the different parts of a plant and have a basic understanding of plant anatomy.
  2. Use wire in a variety of ways to provide structure for a crochet sculpture.
  3. Use a variety of stitches to create different effects.
  4. Understand how to use different hook sizes, yarn materials, wire gauges and arrangements to create different effects.
  5. Understand the importance of a construction plan for order or work and assemblage.

 Assessments 

  1. Design Plan. Design, illustrate and label a plan detailing a full break down of what techniques, materials and the order of tasks with construction methods, you will use. (20%)
  2. Final Sculpture. Create a life like crochet wire replica of a chosen plant in full bloom that is stable and wired. (80%)
