Overview

Have you always been interested in art but never known where to begin? Perhaps you enjoyed being creative in the past and would like to rediscover your artistic skills, or maybe you are simply looking for a new challenge in a supportive and relaxing environment. Whatever your experience level, this course offers an accessible and enjoyable introduction to the world of art.

Designed for beginners and those returning to creative practice, this practical course provides a welcoming space in which to explore a range of artistic techniques and materials. Learners will develop confidence through practical, hands-on activities while gaining an understanding of the fundamental principles of drawing, painting, and visual expression. Throughout the course, participants will experiment with a variety of media, including pencil, charcoal, ink, watercolour, acrylic paint, and collage. Through guided exercises and structured activities, learners will discover the unique qualities and creative possibilities of each medium, developing skills in observation, composition, colour, texture, and mark-making.

Each session will include focused tasks designed to introduce key techniques and artistic concepts, alongside short creative projects that encourage experimentation and personal expression. Learners will have opportunities to practise and refine newly acquired skills, culminating in the creation of individual pieces of artwork that reflect their interests and growing confidence. The course will also introduce learners to basic artistic terminology and provide insight into how artists use different materials and processes to communicate ideas.

By exploring a range of approaches and styles, participants will gain a broader understanding of art-making while developing their own creative voice. Above all, this course aims to foster creativity, curiosity, and enjoyment. Whether you are taking your first steps into art, rekindling a long-held interest, or seeking a rewarding and relaxing hobby, you will be encouraged to learn at your own pace in a friendly, supportive, and inspiring atmosphere.
