Programme
Content will be delivered through units that will act as a springboard for personal enquiry and advanced colour theory techniques. This has a high load on contextualising artists who use interiors as a subject matter. Students will choose Interiors within their locality and address the topics below.
Unit 1: Composition: Creating Interesting Images Brief re-cap over the principles of composition and approaches to creating strong compositions and interesting images. This will lay the foundation of the observational studies we will undertake from which we will work from and abstract throughout the course.
Unit 2: Tone: Working in monochrome Studying the importance of tone and the varied tonal values in a range of interior spaces. Working in a monochromatic colour palette in order to better capture the range of tonal values at play.
Unit 3: Cropping and Abstracting Approaches to abstraction by cropping larger images into smaller compositions from which to study texture and patina effects. Unit 4: Texture and Patina.
Unit 4: Exploring approaches of generating and capturing texture and patina effects from observational source material. We will explore techniques of rubbing and a range of mediums including cold wax and masking fluid.
Unit 5: Using Materials to Represent.
Unit 5: Experiment with a range of different materials to represent architectural features and effects of patina and texture.
Unit 6: Exploring Surface Texture. Unit 6 will explore how surface texture can be captured and incorporated into images as a means of exploring texture and patina effects.
Unit 7: Combining Approaches. Focussing on combining all that has been explored throughout the course and incorporating them into the same image. Beginning with a strong composition, this will be abstracted by cropping your composition to a smaller interesting study. Enlarging this, you will then combine a number of approaches explored throughout the course to capture texture an effects of patina as observed in your original source material.
