£650 a year Music Scholarships are open to UK and international applicants
The application form will be available soon.
Music Scholarship holders have benefited from accessing the varied established provision that the University offers; and, following the relaxation of current restrictions, we look forward to being able to offer similar opportunities. However, during the last year, we have also taken the opportunity to hold a community-wide discussion regarding the future of the music at Aberystwyth, and will be re-launching the provision as soon as circumstances allow; this will include access to practice rooms, our on-going relationship with the symphony orchestra Philomusica as well as with choirs, various music groups and new music initiatives. The provision will be led by a newly-appointed Music Director/Animateur, who will be reviewing and leading on a re-launched provision.
In the meantime, however, we are delighted to offer 4 Music Scholarships for new entrants starting in September 2021. We will select scholarship holders on the basis of audition and interview and we welcome applications for the Music Scholarship from across all our subject areas across the University. We will select according to the following:
- Music scholarships will be awarded on the basis of musical excellence as demonstrated through an audition; the awards will be made to instrumentalists and vocalists who will be asked to perform a piece of up to 5 minutes long over Zoom or Skype.
- Scholarship-holders are valued members of the Aberystwyth music community and as well as the audition, we will invite applicants to a brief interview. We will focus here on your potential contributions, not only as a musician, but as active members of the music community. We will send some questions in advance for you to prepare, but will be discussing any experience you might have of contributing to the organisation of music events or working with ensembles for example; we will also be seeking ideas from you regarding ways in which we can extend the reach of music both for music-makers, performers and listeners.
