Establishing sustainable levels of gravel extraction on the Afon Tywi at Llandovery
Brief Description
This two year project on the Afon Tywi near Llandovery has multiple objectives which can essentially be grouped into 3 themes:
- To establish the geomorphological and hydrological controls on past, present and future river channel dynamics at the site.
- To ascertain the potential impacts of future gravel mining.
- To provide recommendations for operation of, and impact management arising from, proposed new gravel extraction operations at the site.
To address these objectives the project is using a combination of field-based techniques including repeat topographical surveys, tracer studies and suspended sediment monitoring.
