Booking

Do I have to book in advance for the event?

Places are limited for our Open Day and attendees will need to book in advance. Secure your place via our Open Day booking form.

How many visitors can accompany me on the day?

At the point of booking, you will have noted the number of guests included in your party, to amend this, please contact our Open Day team so we can update your booking record (enquiries@aber.ac.uk).

I can no longer attend the Open Day, how do I cancel my booking?

We appreciate that on occasions your plans may need to change.  If you are unable to attend the event, please contact us to cancel your booking via email (enquiries@aber.ac.uk). Our Open Day team will be able to advise on alternative ways to discover more about Aberystwyth including future visiting opportunities.

Programme Information and Registration

What time do I need to arrive and where do I register ?

Our Open Days broadly run between 9.00 – 16.00 during which you will have the opportunity to attend central talks, visit academic departments and have time to explore the campus.

Further information regarding the schedule for the day will be sent to you in advance.

Do I need to bring booking confirmation with me on the day of the event?

In advance of the event we will send visitors a series of emails confirming your booking and providing useful information to help you plan your day. 

In the week leading up to the event this will include a QR code that you can use to register on the day. Registration will be held in Aberystwyth Arts Centre and will open from 9.00.    

Will I receive a programme for the event in advance of my visit ?

The programme will be included in the email you receive closer to the event. This will include useful advice to help you plan your visit. 

When you arrive in the Arts Centre, our team of staff and student ambassadors will be on hand to welcome you, provide directions and advice. 

What does a typical Open Day programme look like?

Open Days are a chance for you to discover more about living and studying in Aberystwyth. There are a range of activities offered across the day, including opportunities to attend talks, view facilities and discuss your queries with staff and current students.

Our Open Days broadly run between 9.00 – 16.00 and within this you can attend the sessions which are of most interest to you.

When arriving to campus you will register in Aberystwyth Arts Centre (from 9.00), where our team will be able to offer advice on how to make the most of your day and signpost to the range of activities on offer.

The central Open Day programme runs on the Penglais Campus and includes welcome talks (repeated across the morning) which commence from 9.10.  The schedule includes a range of optional talks covering topics including Accommodation, Fees and Funding and Student Life.

Campus tours are offered on the hour between 10.00 – 16.00 (last tour departs at 15.00).  These tours are led by one of our Student Ambassadors and provide the chance to view facilities including: the Students’ Union; Aberystwyth Arts Centre; the Sports Centre and the Hugh Owen Library and give you a feel for the layout of the campus.

An Information Fair is held between 9.00 – 15.30 and provides the opportunity to gather useful documentation and ask queries around topics including: the admissions process, fees and funding, Student Support Services, accommodation, and opportunities to study, volunteer or work abroad.

A range of our student accommodation will be open during the day for you to view (between 9.00 – 16.00).  We’ll provide you with information on the viewing options and you can then make your way to the show house / flat in your own time and ask any queries you may have about living with us. 

Our academic departments provide a range of activities on the day, and again, further details of these will be included in the programme which is sent to you in advance (to the email address supplied when booking).

Will I be able to view University accommodation during the visit?

A range of our residences will be available for you to view on the day. Further information on the opening times of our show houses and flats will be included in the programme information you receive in advance of your visit.

Supporting Your Visit

What support is available if a member of my party has a disability, mobility issue, or requires adjustments to be made for our visit?

If you have already notified us of additional requirements when completing the booking form, our Open Day team will be in touch to discuss your visit and identify any practical measures we can put in place to support you.

If you wish to update your booking record to advise us that a member of your party has a disability, mobility issue or requires any adjustments to be made to support your visit, please get in touch with our Open Day team who will be happy to help (enquiries@aber.ac.uk).

Will it be possible to speak with a member of the Student Services team?

Members of the Student Services Team will be on hand to answer your questions during the Open Day. They will be located in the Information Fair between 9:00 - 15:30. 

Travel, Transport and Facilities

How can I view a map of the University?

In advance of your visit, please refer to the University Maps section of the website. Printed maps (A3 in size) will be available to pick up at our welcome desks when you register during the Open Day in Aberystwyth Arts Centre.

The Open Day programme will include room and venue information for the different activities. The programme will be sent to you in advance (to the email address supplied when booking).

Our team of Student Ambassadors in yellow t-shirts, will be happy to offer directions during the day.

I’m travelling by car, where can I park on campus ?

As you arrive to the Penglais Campus, please follow signs and guidance for free car parking.  If anyone in your party requires accessible parking (and you have not made a note of this when booking) please advise our Open Day team so we can ensure appropriate arrangements are in place.

Are there any charging points for electric vehicles on campus?

In order to support the growing use of electric vehicles, Aberystwyth University has installed electric vehicle chargers at several sites across the University estate. All chargers are accompanied by detailed signage illustrating operation. View further information on electric vehicle charging.

I’m travelling by train to Aberystwyth, how do I get to campus?

We will be providing a free bus shuttle service to and from campus during the Open Day. 

When you arrive in Aberystwyth, keep an eye out for our Student Ambassador at the train station, they will be wearing a yellow top so they are easy to spot and will be able to show you to the bus.

Free Open Day Bus Service: Town – Penglais Campus – School of Art

During the Open Day a free shuttle service is available between the town and Penglais campus (9.00 - 16.30). Please call into the welcome desk at the University’s Workstation next to Aberystwyth train station to request a bus. The service will set down and pick up from the main Penglais Campus bus stop where staff members will be based to assist with queries. 

A shuttle service is also provided between the main Penglais campus and the School of Art. Please refer to the School of Art programme for building opening times and activities.

 

I’m travelling by coach to Aberystwyth, how do I get to campus?

The National Express service to Aberystwyth stops on the campus, the stop is called Aberystwyth University. Upon arrival visitors are welcome to make use of the free Open Day bus service between town and campus during the Open Day. 

Is visitor WIFI available on campus?

What hospitality outlets are available on campus?

Details of the cafes, bars, outlets and restaurant on campus will be noted in our Open Day Guide (including information on location, opening times and the range of refreshments and meals offered). A link to the pdf version of the Guide will be sent to visitors in advance.  Printed copies of the Guide will also be available to pick up when you register on campus.

Please note all outlets on campus are cashless – we accept all contactless payments.
