Information for Schools & Colleges

We would like to thank you for allowing your students to sit the Scholarship examinations at your school/college. We are very grateful to all institutions who agree to host the examinations and we aim to facilitate this with as little disruption to you as possible. Aberystwyth University's Entrance Scholarships are long-established and prestigious - success brings recognition for the students and to their schools/colleges.

Timeline:

September - January:

Students need to request permission from their Examinations Officer to sit the exams at your school/college.

18th January:

Students need to submit applications to the University - either electronically via our website, or print out, complete and email/post the form to us.

Special considerations:

Students are asked to inform us and their Exams Officers if they are entitled to extra time for their examinations. Students are also entitled to any other allowances as per normal school exams (e.g. use of word processor / scribe).  We ask that Exams Officers email us to confirm what requirements the candidate is entitled to.

Last full week of January:

The University will send Examinations Officers all the materials required:
Candidate List / Examination papers / Answer booklets / Timetable & Subject Areas for Scholarship Exams / Notes on the Conduct of the Entrance Scholarship exams of the exams.
Exams must be taken on the timetabled date, unfortunately there is no flexibility on this.

28th January:

Examinations take place and Examinations Officers return the completed exam papers to the University (no need to return any question papers or unused answer books). Please return the exam papers as soon as possible after the conclusion of the examinations.

End of February/Start of March:

The University will write to all candidates and their schools/colleges informing them of their exam results and whether or not they have acheived an award. Names of successful candidates and those of their schools/colleges will also be published on our website.

Please note:

Any student who decides not to sit the examinations should notify the Scholarships Team immediately.

There is no cost to the candidate or school/college, but we are unable to assist with any invigilation costs which may be incurred.

In order to fit into individual institution timetables, schools and colleges may begin either session of the Scholarship Examinations up to one hour before or after that shown on the University's timetable.

If a candidate’s subjects clash, they would be expected to sit one paper during the morning session, and the other during the afternoon session.
