Here at Aberystwyth University our Student Recruitment Team continuously work in providing prospective students, teachers and parents with a comprehensive knowledge of higher education. 

Please join us as we delve into various matters concerning the journey from your application to arriving at university. 

In partnership with Channel Talent, Aberystwyth University's Student Recruitment Team have been running weekly live webinars. These webinars discuss various matters which will help make your journey to university that little bit easier. Recordings of these discussions are also be kept on these pages.

Why, What and Where to study: Making the right decision

As part of Aberystwyth’s webinar series Your Guide to Higher Education: Making it from Application to Arrival, this session aims to help prospective students see the benefits of gaining a degree and how to choose the perfect course & University.

The webinar covers the following subjects:

  • The benefits of a degree
  • How to choose the perfect course
  • How to choose the perfect University
  • Q&A with current students about the above topics

Students should come away from this session with clear ideas of what opportunities will await them with an Undergraduate degree and how to begin researching the perfect course and University for them.

Personal Statements: Making a statement

As part of Aberystwyth’s webinar series Your Guide to Higher Education: Making it from Application to Arrival, this session aims to prepare prospective students for writing their Personal Statement:

  • A brief introduction to the UCAS system
  • A general overview of the structure of the Personal Statement
  • Writing the Introduction
  • What to think about when talking about your subject choice
  • Why including information about Extra-Curricular activities is important
  • Writing the Conclusion

There will be interactive elements with a poll/quiz for participants to complete, and there will also be a Q&A session with our Student Ambassadors.

The students should come away from this session with plenty of ideas so they can begin to write their Personal Statement with confidence.

Student Life: Making the most of being at university.

As part of Aberystwyth’s webinar series Your Guide to Higher Education: Making it from Application to Arrival, this session aims to prepare prospective students for life as a university student. We will cover the following subjects:

  • Moving away from home
  • Fresher’s Week
  • Studying at university level
  • Making the most of student life
  • Budgeting

There will be interactive elements with a poll/quiz for participants to complete, and there will also be a Q&A session with our Student Ambassadors.

The students should come away from this session with clear ideas of how they will prepare for life as a student, and with ideas they can research.

Student Finance: Making it easy to budget and understand

As part of Aberystwyth’s webinar series Your Guide to Higher Education: Making it from Application to Arrival, this session will explain the Student Funding system, and will look briefly at the difference between the system in England and Wales.

  • It will explain the elements of University life that are funded, namely the Tuition Fees and Maintenance.
  • It will explain how SFE and SFW contribute to paying for these costs through loans and grants.
  • We’ll look at Scholarships, and how to search for them, and what they can offer.
  • We’ll also look at what other financial assistance is available to students.
  • A final key topic will be budgeting for university – when do loans/grants/scholarships/bursaries arrive, and what do we pay for – the contribution and knowledge of the student ambassadors will be vital for this element.

Students will benefit from the session by having a better understanding of the funding system for higher education.
