Inclusive Accommodation Offer for International Students beginning their course in the 2020/2021 academic year
We are delighted to offer eligible international (non UK/EU domiciled) students starting an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in the academic year 2020-21 the Aberystwyth Inclusive Accommodation Offer. If you are accepted to study at Aberystwyth University, the normal tuition fees for the course will include your accommodation costs.
What does this mean?
This means that if you accept the accommodation allocated to you, it will be at no additional cost to your tuition fees for the duration of your course (as long as you remain a full-time, full fee-paying student) and subject to the normal regulations concerning accommodation licences and application deadlines each year. The offer applies to accommodation which is equivalent to Cwrt Mawr Price Band 1 and Cwrt Mawr Price Band 2 self-catered accommodation (length of licence applies).
Who is eligible to receive the offer?
All eligible full-fee paying international students beginning their studies on an undergraduate programme, or a postgraduate programme (including those on pre-University English language programmes leading to enrolment at the University) in the 2020/2021 academic year will automatically receive the inclusive accommodation offer.
Those not eligible for the offer are:
- Students in receipt of a tuition fee discount which is more than 10% of the full cost of the tuition fee (with the exception of holders of the Aber Grad Scholarship, where no additional discounts are held)
- Recipients of Aber Doc and Aber Doc & President Scholarships
- Students whose tuition fees are fully-funded or have government full tuition fee sponsorship (including Chevening Scholars, Commonwealth Scholars)
- Students undertaking a year of abeyance/writing up year
- Recipients of Brickfields Asia College Merit Scholarships and Hardship Scholarships
- Recipients of HELP University Merit Scholarships and Hardship Scholarships
- Students undertaking Exchanges
- International English Centre students who are already in receipt of a discount
How do I apply for the inclusive accommodation offer?
All you need to do is apply to study at Aberystwyth University by 1 August 2020 and be accepted onto the course. When the accommodation application portal opens in April, you will need to apply online for university accommodation and either accept or reject the inclusive accommodation offered to you in one of the designated blocks in Cwrt Mawr.
What if I want to live in different University-managed accommodation?
If you would prefer to live in accommodation which is not designated by the Accommodation Office as being part of the inclusive offer, you can instead opt to receive a pro-rata £2,000 a year discount off any other University-managed accommodation, subject to availability and application deadlines.
If you would prefer this option you can reject the place offered to you in Cwrt Mawr through the online accommodation application portal, and select any other University-managed accommodation instead, discounted by £2,000 a year.
If you initially accept the offer of accommodation in Cwrt Mawr but then decide you want to move to different University-managed accommodation, the £2,000 discount will be given on a pro-rata basis (at a nightly rate, minus any time you lived in Cwrt Mawr) subject to availability.
No discount is available for accommodation which is not University-managed.
If you decide you want to transfer to different accommodation, you will need to complete an Accommodation Transfer Request form and return it in person to the Accommodation Office reception at Y Sgubor, Fferm Penglais.
What if my circumstances change after I have secured my accommodation in Cwrt Mawr, and I receive a Scholarship which takes me over the permitted 10% tuition fee discount?
If you receive an additional award after securing your accommodation which means that you are no longer eligible to receive the inclusive accommodation offer (or £2,000 discount), the offer will be withdrawn. You will then have the option of staying in Cwrt Mawr and paying the full accommodation fee, moving to another University managed property (subject to availability), or moving into private sector accommodation.
