Brief description

This module provides an understanding of the practical and theoretical issues arising from organising an exhibition for the School of Art Gallery (or Ceramics Gallery). It equips the student with the varied skills required to stage and manage an art exhibition. It may be seen as the culmination of the students' experience of studying Museum and Gallery Studies, allowing them to consolidate and put into practice the theory learned, and the skills acquired, over three years. Under supervision, students research and prepare an exhibition using objects from the School of Art's collections (arranging loans from other institutions where appropriate), working to a specific brief, a deadline, and within a limited budget.

1. investigate the theory and practice of making meanings through display
2. give an insight into the administration of exhibitions
3. demonstrate many of the practical skills required in staging an exhibition
4. create an awareness of accounting and accountability in budgeting and fund raising
