Learning Outcomes

On completion of the module, students will be able to:

1. Analyse mechanised system performance
2. Design/select machine systems and system elements
3. Specify and design appropriate farm buildings, storage facilities and systems.

This module is designed to provide a thorough technical and managerial knowledge of crop and livestock mechanisation systems. It will also enable students to identify relevant factors associated with the design and construction of buildings for livestock housing and handling, crop storage and the handling, storage and processing of farm waste.

The lecture course is visit/demonstration oriented with formal teaching consolidating on practical application. Several mechanised systems, such as forage harvesting, cultivation and spraying systems are broken down into their constituent parts, analysed and optimised. Farm buildings and farm waste systems are also examined in detail.
