Brief description
This module provides students with the opportunity to apply a range of relevant theoretical approaches to the study of anglophone World Literatures in a number of genres. Building on the integration of text and literary theory introduced by the second-year core module, EN20120, Reading Theory, Reading Text 1, this module develops students' understanding of the relationship between theory and text through the application of a variety of theoretical readings to four literary texts, chosen by individual tutors from a larger 'pool', drawn from a range of national, cultural and regional literatures. Students will encounter a range of colonial and postcolonial experiences, and will address the issue of how we go about theorising world literatures in the age of globalisation. Four texts will be studied. At least three of the texts will be chosen by the individual tutor from a designated list of texts (see above); the fourth text may be the free choice of individual tutors.
