Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

​1. Analyse historical trends in hazard events, and demonstrate an understanding of future scenarios.

2. Critically assess risk in a wide variety of hazard contexts.

3. Propose effective mitigation strategies for a wide variety of geohazards.

Brief description

In Geohazards you will be introduced to hazard events across the globe, and examine the physical processes, societal impacts and mitigation strategies for such hazards. You will consider historic trends in hazards, and future projections in a changing climate.

Content

A variety of themes will be discussed, which may include extreme weather, riverine floods, glacial hazards, seismic and volcanic hazards, and extra-terrestrial hazards.
