On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
1. Understand advanced concepts in mentoring, from both a theoretical and practiced-based perspective.
2. Engage with and make sense of, a wide range of evidence, literature, scholarship, as well as personal-professional reflection in respect of educational mentorship.
3. Develop evidence-based effective mentoring policies and practices in their educational context(s), which are consistent with their level of seniority and influence within their institution.
4. Plan and conduct a small-scale inquiry project with mentorship of colleagues as its focus.
This 30-credit module is designed to develop a high-level, advanced understanding of mentorship practices and principles, suitable for mentoring colleagues at all levels within educational institutions. It is particularly suitable for senior educational professionals with a background of sustained leadership roles within their organizations who are required to provide ongoing guidance and mentorship to colleagues.
Lectures: 10 hours of lectures to be made available online.
Seminars/ Tutorials: 10 hours of seminars to be delivered online.
10 hours of supervisor-student tutorial contact time, to be delivered across the span of the module.
Any other teaching methods: As well as online lectures and seminars, students will be expected to engage with online learning materials (e.g. readings, videos, reflective tasks and journal entry tasks) across the span of the module.
The content of the module will focus on the following areas:
1. Mentoring and educational leadership.
2. Creating change through mentorship.
3. Building a mentoring culture and infrastructure (1): Policies and procedures
4. Building a mentoring culture and infrastructure (2): People and relationships
5. Mentoring leading teams.
6. Distributing Leadership.
7. Mentoring for agency and accountability in Education.
8. Assignment preparation: identifying a focus and conducting a review of literature and evidence.
9. Assignment preparation: developing your mentorship inquiry.
10. Capturing the impact of mentoring.

|Communication||This will be developed both in seminar discussions and in the written project. There will also be communication between mentors and mentees, and the sharing of good practice between mentors will be encouraged.|

|Information Technology||Students will be expected to develop and consolidate their understanding of key aspects of mentorship through engagement with resources through AberLearn Blackboard. All assignments will be word processed and students will be required to use IT resources in the research of their assignments.|
|Personal Development and Career planning||Students will be expected to consider and demonstrate how their mentorship has influenced their colleagues, and how the policies, procedures and practices they have developed, educational practice have enhanced the working life and practices both themselves and professionals, and their colleagues.|
|Problem solving||Students will be required to analyse the mentoring and support needs of colleagues, and put in place appropriate strategies to support them, throughout the life of the mentoring relationship.|
|Research skills||Students will be required to engage critically with evidence arising from personal-professional reflection, from literature, research, educational settings and from policy to inform their mentorship practice.|
