Brief description
This module is designed to introduce students to contemporary painting theory and practice. Working in the studio, students develop a clearer understanding of painting as it exists within contemporary culture and how it connects to historical painting. Painting as a relevant and thriving medium within contemporary art is explored in this module within the students' own interests and aspirations. Students are encouraged to explore ideas through the discipline of painting in its broadest sense and begin to lay down the foundations of a portfolio for further study.

Content
This module is designed to introduce students to contemporary painting theory and practice. Students glean a deeper understanding of contemporary painting through lectures and workshops within the studio environment and will use these to support the development of their own portfolio. Students are encouraged to pursue their own interests in the discipline of painting with peer support, group and individual tutorials.
