Wedi cwblhau'r modiwl dylai'r myfyrwyr fedru:

  1. Demonstrate detailed knowledge of the physiology of exercise and locomotory biomechanics in humans, horses or dogs, as well as the ability to compare between species.
  2. Demonstrate an awareness of a range of advanced physiological and biomechanical assessment techniques and the knowledge to carry these out in humans, horses and / or dogs.
  3. Analyse, interpret and evaluate the data produced through the use of advanced physiological and biomechanical assessment techniques.
  4. Demonstrate problem solving abilities and application of scientific theory to provide rational outcomes and solutions to case studies.

Disgrifiad cryno

This module will explore the principles of exercise physiology and locomotion in humans, horses and dogs. Students will have the chance to specialise in the species that they are most interested in through their assignments and practicals to allow them to apply the theory to their species of interest. The module will explore both theory and practical elements of exercise physiology and locomotion, allowing students to develop their data analysis and critical analysis skills.

Cynnwys

The module will be comprised of 3 content blocks
• Physiology of the exercising animal: eg aerobic vs anaerobic capacity; exercise and immune function; exercise and endocrine function
• Locomotion of exercising animals: eg biomechanics, including techniques to quantify
• Integration of physiology and locomotion for exercise performance: eg economy of locomotion; fatigue and performance injuries; training.

The module will comprise of lectures, online pre-work and seminars/practicals.

Cyfathrebu proffesiynol All coursework will be produced in a professional style, developing professional written communication skills.
Datrys Problemau Creadigol The module will provide opportunities to develop problem solving skills in the seminars / practicals, as well as the ability to demonstrate this skill through the scenario based report.
Gallu digidol All assessments will be word processed and expected to be produced to a professional and scientific standard. Practicals will develop skills in data manipulation through the use of spreadsheets. Work for assessments will require further development of data analysis software skills.
Meddwl beirniadol a dadansoddol The module will develop the ability to critically evaluate and analyse data produced within practicals, as well as scientific theory discussed in lectures and developed through further reading
Myfyrdod The use of reflection on methodologies used and manner of carrying these out will be encouraged through practicals.
Sgiliau Pwnc-benodol Students will learn how to conduct exercise-related experiments using state-of-the-art technologies which is a unique feature of this module. The module will furnish students with a knowledge of comparative human, equine and canine exercise physiology and locomotion that will equip them for assessing and enhancing the performance of athletes and ensuring their health and welfare at all times.
