Wedi cwblhau'r modiwl dylai'r myfyrwyr fedru:
- Discuss the application of equine reproductive physiology to the management of equine breeding stock.
- Critically evaluate the use of modern reproductive technology and current research in equine stud management
- Critically evaluate the various management systems used in stud management, including mare, stallion, foal and young-stock management.
- Select breeding stock based upon reproductive competence.
- Evaluate the major factors determining the success of equine reproduction and management.
Disgrifiad cryno
This module will give the student the opportunity to acquire adequate knowledge to make informed decisions or to discuss management practices currently used in equine stud farm medicine. It will do this by considering all aspects of equine stud management in detail, including mare, young-stock and stallion management. The application and value of reproductive technology will be considered and an understanding of the current areas of research in equine stud medicine will be encouraged. The major factors which determine and affect the success of equine reproduction will be discussed and the importance of selection of breeding stock based upon reproductive competence will be stressed.

A series of approximately 36 lectures and seminars
The aims of the module are:
* To apply reproductive physiology to breeding and stud management practice
* To investigate the use of reproductive technology
* To provide the theoretical knowledge to work within a stud farm enterprise.
* To enable students to make educated judgements/decisions on stud farm practice
It will achieve this by considering the following areas
* Selection of the mare and stallion for breeding
* Preparation of the mare and stallion for covering
* Manipulation of reproduction
* Mating management
* The process and management of parturition
* Foal adaptation and management
* Management of the lactating mare and older foal
* Weaning management
* Management of young-stock
* Stallion Management
* Infertility in the mare and stallion
* Reproductive technologies

| Cyfathrebu | The coursework for this module will be a report based upon a real-life scenario/case study. As such the student’s ability to communicate their ideas and information retrieved effectively in writing will be directly assessed. Non assessed seminars on current research will also develop, but not assess, students oral communication skills, informal feedback will however be given |
| Datrys Problemau | The assignment set will be based upon a scenario /case study and will require the identification of the problems within the scenario along with potential solutions. Hence problem solving skills will be both developed and assessed |
