Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

Undertake a critical review of the current literature for selected research topics

Generate original data and critically evaluate that data to determine new knowledge or make recommendations for future work

Independently design and implement methodologies for the analysis of geospatial data

Present and articulate the findings of previous research and avenues for future research

Demonstrate an understanding of the current challenges that exist within specific research topics

Independently determine research objectives and design methodologies for addressing these objectives

Brief description

This module introduces current research application topic areas within the discipline of remote sensing and GIS. These topics align closely with research activities of the Earth Observation and Ecosystem Dynamics research group. In doing so, students will learn cutting edge remote sensing and GIS techniques with in the context of applications areas such as malaria risk mapping, monitoring ecosystems, land cover change, biomass burning etc.

Content

This module takes a deep dive into five research topic areas. Aligning closely with the current research activities within the Earth Observation and Ecosystem Dynamics research group, students will learn and apply cutting-edge techniques and concepts for researching globally significant application areas such as malaria risk mapping, wildfires, quantifying carbon storage, monitoring changes tropical mangrove extent. This module will hone your skills as a geospatial data analyst and foster your skills for critically evaluating and presenting results.
