  2. Evidence an ability to apply pedagogical and teaching theories and methods, and justify their selection and use.
  3. Identify, select and apply methods of session planning and assessment.

Disgrifiad cryno

This is a core module on the PCET scheme where you will be introduced to key theories relating to teaching and learning. The understanding of how people learn will enable you to reflect upon your own practice, develop strategies and ideas based upon your understanding of learning and apply these in the context of your own teaching. You will consider how learners are different and how you should adapt your teaching methods to suit the needs of a variety of learners. The key elements for effective planning will be considered in order to ensure that your teaching is effective and useful and you will also consider how you assess the success of your teaching – how will you know that your learners have made progress. This is a vital module in the development of effective learning and teaching.

Each unit will comprise of two hours combination of lectures and seminars.
Unit 1 - Theories of learning
Unit 2 - What is pedagogy?
Unit 3 – Teaching which is structured, varied, motivating and interactive
Unit 4 - Planning and preparing effective lessons which are challenging and relevant to all learners
Unit 5 - Differentiation and Critically analysing learners
Unit 6 - Introduction to assessment
Unit 7 - Assessment for learning and for teaching
Unit 8 - Embedding skills, (including literacy, numeracy, digital literacy and employability)
Unit 9 - Managing and monitoring performance
Unit 10 - Behaviour management strategies

Cyfathrebu This will be developed both in seminar discussions and in preparation for the assessments
Datblygu personol a chynllunio gyrfa Reflection activities during seminars will be used to encourage personal development. The evaluation of microteaching will be assessed.
Datrys Problemau There will be a requirement to understand and apply relevant theoretical concepts to own practice and to learning and teaching contexts.
Gwaith Tim Seminar activities will involve group work.
Gwella dysgu a pherfformiad ei hun Assessment for learning will be incorporated into many sessions to allow learners to reflect on their own performance and to develop strategies to improve.
Rhifedd Statistical reports may be considered and data to support arguments may be analysed.
Sgiliau pwnc penodol Students will develop skills in regards to teaching, planning, assessing and professional practice.
Sgiliau ymchwil This will be developed throughout the module but particularly in regards to the research necessary in the assessments
Technoleg Gwybodaeth All assignments will be word processes and students will be required to utilize IT resources in the research of their assignments.
