Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

Demonstrate an awareness of the various stages of media production from conception to realisation, including camerawork and editing.

Upload and share productions.

Work effectively as part of a production group.

Demonstrate a sharpened understanding of specific production roles.

Demonstrate an ability to reflect critically on their work as an individual within a production team.

Brief description

This module enables students to take part in a variety of media production activities including writing, researching, filming and editing short films across different genres and incorporating a number of different styles. Students will participate in filming projects in different production roles.

In addition, issues of media convergence will be discussed by sharing and discussing the weekly films, keeping a journal that will allow critical and theoretical reflection on media production.

Content

Within the module there are workshops on writing; camera work; editing; different film styles and working together as part of a production team.

Communication Effective communication skills - oral, written and visual - will be developed throughout the module.

Personal Development and Career planning The skills gained from this module will enhance the employability of the students.
Problem solving Production groups will be set tasks as part of the module and will be required to resolve problems/issues relating to these.
Research skills Students will be required to research specific topics in preparation for the weekly tasks relating to various styles/forms.
Subject Specific Skills Media production skills in a converging media environment will be developed throughout the module.
Team work Production groups will be required to work effectively as a team to deliver media content by specific deadlines.
