Shared Filestore

If you require file storage which can be accessed by more than one member of staff then you can apply for a Shared filestore

Shared filestore: 

  • comes with 10GB of free storage
  • can be easily shared with colleagues within AU via Myaccount. 
  • will be automatically mapped for you whenever you login to any University computer anywhere on campus without the need for a separate username and password
  • can be accessed off-campus when connected to the AU network by VPN
  • allows you to grant either 'read-only' or read/write' access to the files
  • is backed up regularly by Information Services

SharePoint

SharePoint:

  • stores your files in the cloud so you can access them from any device connected to the Internet via a web browser
  • can be mapped as a drive on your computer
  • allows you to create individual sites for specific projects and teams
  • allows you to create and edit documents within your browser, recover those you have deleted in error and access different versions of your documents
  • allows you to share files or folders with other users and allows multiple users to edit a document at once, with everyones changes being saved
  • provides apps to facilitate team and project working e.g task lists,wikis, discussion boards

Research Data

Up to 1TB of digital in-project storage is available, free of charge, on a project-by-project basis.

This storage will be provided on a centrally held server, mirrored to a separate system (at an alternative location) with periodic backup arrangements in place. This arrangement allows stored data to be protected from component and system failures with the ability to restore from tape for data that was deleted or corrupted.

OneDrive

All AU email accounts come with 1TB of storage for email and files called OneDrive.

OneDrive:

  • stores your files in the cloud so you can access them from any device connected to the Internet via a web browser
  • can be mapped as a drive on your computer
  • includes the Office Web Apps Excel, Word, PowerPoint and OneNote so you can create and edit documents within your browser, recover those you have deleted in error and print directly from your browser
  • share files or folders with other users

Personal filestore (M drive)

Every user account at Aberystwyth University has 100GB of storage on the University network, often referred to as the M drive,  to store documents, images and other files.

Personal filestore (M drive):

  • comes with 100GB of free storage
  • will be automatically mapped for you whenever you login to any University computer anywhere on campus without the need for a separate username and password
  • can be accessed off-campus when connected to the AU network by VPN
  • is backed up regularly by Information Services
