*Apply the methods required to answer straightforward problems in Physics

Brief description

Mathematical problem solving is a fundamental skill in Physics that is also highly valued in the workplace. This module is aimed at enabling students to apply the mathematical techniques required to solve physical problems. Provision will be through lectures, weekly workshops and example sheets.

Physics Joint Honours students are encouraged to attend PH16520 lectures and workshops in the second semester.

Content

Foundation Topics:
Polynominal arithmetic, algebra, equations, partial fractions, trigonometry, Binominal series, differentiation, integration, functions.
Complex Numbers
Hyperbolic Functions
Determinants and matrices
Vectors
Differentiation
