Brief description

The module will provide students with expert guidance in their chosen area of research, giving them the opportunity to devise a research topic with a specialist member of staff and to receive regular feedback on the development of assessed work.

This module will give students the opportunity to pursue their area of interest with a specialist in the field and prepare them for the independent study required by the Dissertation. For their Dissertation itself, students may continue with the broad subject area of their guided essay. The material must be a development and must not therefore be a repetition of material already discussed in the Guided Research module. Relevant research training that will aid students in their work for Guided Research will be provided by our first semester core ENM0120 Research Skills.

Precise topic to be agreed between student and tutor depending on area of research. If following registration the number of students who wish to take a specialist option module are too low for it to be viable, we will contact the individual student(s) to offer them Guided Research and to ask them to choose a research area to work on.

Weeks one and two:
Discussion with tutor to determine the specific subject area to be pursued and to compile a bibliography of relevant texts.

Week three:
Define project area.

Weeks four, five and six:
Conduct independent research, guided by tutor, the development of which to be discussed in tutorials. In week five, define specific research question.

Week seven:

Weeks eight, nine and ten:
